Some Interesting Stuff About Mud Trucks

These days, in many rural parts of the country, an increasingly popular sport has come into being which is called “mud bogging” by its fans and competitors. Everybody who’s ever lived out in the country knows that it can sometimes get a little boring, and mud bogging can be a way to alleviate that boredom. What to know about mud trucks, the equipment used in bogging, can be important.

Nowadays, the sport has grown so popular that there is an actual league and events held all over the country. This sort of activity differs from just taking a truck and going out on a 4×4 excursion, also. This is because it takes place in a bog or trench of certain length and will need a powerful truck that has been fitted for this purpose. Usually, these kinds of trucks are known as “boggers.”

Above everything else, any good truck used in bogging will require a powerful engine, and there’s no disputing that fact. This is because one will be deliberately maneuvering a lift-kitted 4×4 truck into a deep and relatively long muddy trench. A very strong motor will be needed to get that truck into and out of these trenches, some of which are up to a mile in length.

Any good truck used in this sport also needs to be correctly built or set up so that it works to prevent the engine from blowing up while maneuvering the truck through the trench. The truck will be fitted with a lift kit and will need a good, strong transmission that works with the engine to keep it from getting stuck. It must be able to get itself into and out of the trench without assistance.

Look for a truck — if it’s going to be going out and mud bogging — that has been fitted with a good lift kit that gets the truck up high enough to avoid becoming stuck in the trench, for one thing. Also, check to make sure the tires are over sized enough (and knobby enough) to dig in and gain enough traction to allow the truck to be moved swiftly enough to be competitive in an event.

The last thing to look for is a strong enough transmission that can support the powerful engine that will be the power plants that support mudding trucks. After all, taking a relatively heavy truck and then sinking it into deep mud and sludge is a sure recipe to get stuck if the tires, transmission and engine do not work well enough together to get the truck through the enjoyable mess it will find itself in.

There are many other trucks are also popular in the trucking industry like Commercial Trucks, International trucks, Kenworth trucks, Peterbilt trucks, Mack trucks. These type of International truck dealers on our Commercial Trucks site.

Enjoy Your Vacations In Travel Trailers

Traveling by trailer became popular in the 1920s. Back then, Americans were increasingly stretching their legs; they soon learned of the freedom in traveling by trailer. And they quickly came to enjoy the flexibility that came with it.

Today trailers for traveling come in a great number of sizes and personalities to fit every budget and wish list of activities. Keys to enjoying your vacation on wheels are deciding the style of traveling you prefer, recognizing the common trailer issues and knowing how to fix those little bugs.

The frame of the trailer, no matter if it is an RV or a utility trailer, needs proper and regular maintenance. Since the trailer frame carries a lot of weight and is constantly wet and dirty while being hit by road debris, it develops a great deal of rust. To prevent it from damaging the trailer, the frame needs to be treated with a rust preventive spray and painted regularly with at least a double coat of paint and primer.

When you paint under the trailer, you have a chance to spot some other problems and damaged parts such as damaged floors or parts. You will have to fix these before hitting the road.

Using propane needs a lot of care, too. Many fires in trailers start with inadequate handling of propane tanks. To detect a leak of gas from its container, gas detectors are very handy. When you notice the gas smell in the trailer, escape immediately without using the phone or light switches that can ignite the gas. Portable gas containers must be inspected on a regular basis, and kept from rusting with a coat of paint. The gas connections must be also inspected for leaks.

To keep your trailer free from unwanted odors, make sure you use enough water to flush, and that a toilet seal is operational. The unpleasant odors may also enter from the roof which is not tight, so if you suffer from odors, make sure you check the roof and the exhaust fan, too.

Saving fuel today is one of the most important issues for any traveler. Don’t press too hard on the accelerator and try to drive as smoothly as you can. When you need to slow down, let the trailer coast naturally instead of using a brake to slow down. A smooth acceleration may save as much as 10 per cent of fuel down the road. To save fuel, check the plugs which can eat as much as 30 per cent of fuel efficiency, and change the oil and water frequently. New tires will also save you fuel. And finally, don’t overload your trailer and clear out the storage areas at least once a year.

Last, but not least, check your trailer roof for decays and rust. A leaking roof can lead to eventual damage to the trailer. Most trailer roofs are made of fiberglass or aluminum, and they can be easily cleaned, painted and sealed with silicone, if needed. Keeping your roof clean and dry is essential for overall trailer longevity.

How To Expose Your ATV's Durabilities?

Not all Atvs are made equal, now particularly when there are as many dissimilar types of ATVS as there are ATV trails. You have 4 wheel drive utility type ATVs' to rigid suspension racing 4 wheelers.

Four wheel drive utility quads are the perfect match for muddy parcels, but it is highly recommended that you have skid plates installed. The heavier weight of these types of ATV's with locking differentials will let you sling mud and essentially catch onto just about anything.

Some other type of ATVS like Honda atvs, Polaris atvs, Yamaha atvs that fits some personalities are sport racing style ATV's. Now don't be mistaken sport style ATV's can hold their own in mud, but are not the first choice for deep mud holes. Speed will help crossing over some mud holes which fit the sport bikes to a T, although stopping in the middle will find yourself pulling out with a wench.

Another type of terrain that is typically encountered is sandy trails, especially the sand found in and around creek beds. Usually traction is good in sand dunes although unpacked sand is going to be a problem for most 4 wheelers, unless you are an experienced rider. In looser types of sand a sport bike will be the prevailing choice, with the lighter weight and the advantage of speed. Utility type quads and there heavier weight will usually sink in loose sand. Whether you have a utility or sport style Cheap atvs speed will be your savior when crossing sand.

Discussions and debates among your riding friends will be varied as to what makes a riding trail great. Some people will enjoy mostly level trails with a few hills and ditches thrown in. Others will enjoy slinging mud, jumping through the air or crawling up bluffs.

It really doesn't matter what type of trails that you think is the best, what matters is that you are prepared to match your type of ATV to the type of trails that you will be riding on to maximize your fun. Matching the trail type to your ATV will showcase your quads strengths instead of bringing out it's weaknesses.

How Can Cars And Semi Trucks Exist together On the Same Roads?

Tractor-trailers flying down the highway are like gigantic moving wrecking balls with the potential to destroy anything in their path. They are also critical to the healthof our economy, providing an efficient way to distribute products from one end of the country to the other.

So despite what your personal feelings may be about these monsters and the people who drive them, you really have no choice but to learn to coexist with them on our roads. If you follow the advice given below, your chancesof being in an accident involving a semi truck will be greatly reduced.

==> Stay a good distance behind a semi truck in the same lane. You will not be able to see what is in front of the truck. If traffic ahead is slowing down considerably or there is debris in the road, you won't know it. The more distance there is between you and the truck in frontof you, the better you will be able to adjust to a sudden decline in traffic speed or obstacles in the road.

==> When passing a semi truck on the highway, if at all possible, pass on the left side. The drivers of large trucks have very little visibility on their right side, so there is a large blind spot on that side that you definitely want to stay outof. One of the primary rules of driving is that slower drivers stick to the right, so that faster drivers can pass on the left. If, by chance, there is a slow truck in frontof you in the left-hand lane, it is a much more prudent course of action to wait until the truck gets over into the right-hand lane, rather than taking the aggressive approach of passing on the right.

==> Don't drive right next to a tractor trailer. Instead, either get by it or fall behind it. If you decide to move on by, don't drive at a dangerous speed, but don't mess around. Get around the truck at a quick yet safe pace. If you get behind him, slow down to let the truck move ahead a safe distance (see rule number one).

==> At intersections where semi trucks are turning toward you from another direction, stay farther back from the end of your lane where you normally would to allow extra room for the truck to get around you without hitting you. Have you ever noticed that tractor trailers are really long? Give them some room!

==> Give semi trucks plenty of room to stop in their lane. If you are in stop-and-go traffic, or in a situation where you see a stop coming up, do not turn into asemi truck's lane unless you are allowing room enough for a forty ton vehicle to come to a stop.

Really, this is all common sense. Unfortunately, a lot of times on the road, when everyone is in a hurry trying to get somewhere, common sense flies out the window like an old piece of paper. Don't take chances with your life! Tractor trailers are very large vehicles that start slow, stop slow, and weigh enough to crush you in an instant. It all comes down to respect. Show these vehicles respect by keeping in mind the difficulty they have navigating our roads, and you will be much less likely to be injured in accident.

How To Endure Your Vintage Truck And Car?

Imagine having just finished putting together your newest model truck. A beautiful forties model vintage trucks it looks great and was fun assembling but something doesn't feel right about it. With it looking cherry just like it rolled off the assembly line it seems quite out of place. You have thought about it and decided that you really want to make it look as if it has been sitting in a field somewhere as cows have grazed around it. Is this level of realism really within reach? Well, either you could drop it in the middle of a cow pasture somewhere and see how it does or you can weather it yourself. Think about which one would be easier.

If you want to attempt weathering your truck you will be in for a nice surprise. It is rather easy to do and requires very little in the way of time or supplies. You will only need a selection of earth tone paints, some water, and a paintbrush or two. The first thing you will need to do is to paint your model truck. Make sure not to give it a thorough coating. You will want to miss a few spots a bit or leave them a little thin. By doing so your rust spots will stand out much better. While your truck is drying you will have time to prepare your rust ink.

The best way to prepare this ink is to find the color you will want to use and mix it with water in a 1:1 ratio. You will then have what is known as a wash. The way that a wash works is that it leaves the water behind as a very light residue but it will not cover up the paint underneath. You should make sure that the ink and water is thoroughly mixed so that it does not become separated. If it does you can have thick spots left overon your paint job that can ruin the look of it.

After you have properly prepared the wash you can then begin to apply it. Dip the tip of your brush only in the wash and allow it to draw in some it. If you overload your brush you can end up losing control of the amount of ink left behind. By using only the tip you will be able to maintain control of the wash that you are laying down. You will next need to touch the brush to the truck. Make sure that it is in the center of where you would like the rust to start out.

Very carefully draw your brush out and away from the place that you want the rust to originate from. This can help you to make it seem much more real. It can also make the paint job look fake if it is not applied properly. Make sure that each coating of rust has ample time to dry so that it will look the best possible.

If you want to make a bigger impact with the rust effect then you need to repeat your steps several times. The more layers that you add will increase the aging effect. This will highly increase the aging effect of a wash. Something you should consider is making several different colors of washes so that you can more closely simulate true rust which is not uniform in color at all. Just think, soon you will be making your own vintage trucks in no time.

If you want to make the rust stand out even more then you can repeat the previous steps. Each time you do this it will add a layer to the model car that it did not have before making it look older and older. The more you add the more weathered it will appear. Make sure to mix different washes each time. Rust is not uniform in color so neither should your wash. With a bit of practice you will be creating vintage cars in no time at all.

Ford F150 Truck As Best Pickup Truck

There is always much debate amongst Ford trucks and Chevrolet truck enthusiasts as to which is the better truck. Sure, there are many ways to compare the Chevy Silverado truck and the Ford F150 truck, including their specs, the interior styling and comfort, exterior styling and features, fuel economy, pricing, horsepower and torque, and reliability and longevity.

In many ways the Chevy Silverado and Ford F150 are very similar, including their horsepower, and towing capacity, though there is video proof of a Silverado out pulling an F150 in a tug of war. But the general idea is that the performance characteristics of these two pickup trucks are pretty much identical.

If you look at the exterior styling of the Chevy Silverado, it has more angular lines than the Ford F150, which has a softer curved style to it. Again this comes down to the Chevy vs Ford guy/gal. As for the interior styling, well, they're pickup trucks, so they're not going to be very different in terms of seating, instrumentation and sound and air conditioning, etc. So again it comes down to whether you are Chevy fan or a Ford fan.

Surprise, fuel economy is basically identical between the Chevy Silverado and the Ford F150 as well. Yet another spec category that can't be decided by any other reason than brand preference. Do you see a pattern here? What about reliability and longevity? That one is again difficult to quantify, as there are always stories of the million mile Chevy Silverado and the Ford F Series floating around. My tendency would be to favor the Silverado slightly in this category, however there just isn't enough proof on either side to come to a definitive conclusion.

So if the Silverado and the Ford F150 are pretty much identical, how can you determine which one is better? There is only one real factor that can determine which truck is better: the North American consumer! So right now, all the Ford fans are cheering and slapping themselves on the back for having the best pickup truck, given that the Ford F150 sold 515,513 units in 2008 compared to the Chevy Silverado at 465,065 units sold. So it looks rosy for the F150, however if you consider the fact that the GMC trucks Sierra is just a Chevy Silverado rebranded under the GMC nameplate, total sales of Chevy Silverado come out on top at 633,609 units sold.

This makes the Chevy Silverado the eternally disputed king of trucks.

Buying Guidelines For Komatsu Bulldozer

Komatsu Bulldozers are the ultimate tool for heavy construction machinery and it is very useful for demolition work. With their unbeatable traction on every imaginable surface, bulldozers are great for moving unwanted materials, grading, or knocking down buildings. You can get abulldozer in a wide variety of sizes for whatever job you have in mind. As little as 40, or as many as 400 horses are available. This range of power should be sufficient for the smallest budget, up to the largest job. Bulldozers combine strength with agility and versatility. Their track drive systems, combined with an evenly distributed weight design allow dozers to go wherever their needed, and take their power with them.

Size and power is not everything, when it comes to getting the right dozer for your job. Buying a dozer that's too big to get around your job site is not a good idea either. Blade size and type are important factors to consider when making your purchase decision. Clearing debris, grading roads, and knocking down derelict buildings are different jobs that require different blades.

Choosing the correct brand of dozer can be a challenge as well. There are several good bulldozer manufacturers to consider, such as Komatsu construction equipments, Caterpillar, New Holland, Rayco, John Deere, Liebherr, and Case. Each of these makers have several models worth considering.

For smaller horsepower jobs, New Holland has the D75, D85, and D95 dozers that range from 75 to 95 horsepower. Komatsu D31EX/PX-21, D39EX/PX-21m and D37EX/PX-21 come with some nice electronic controls. The ever popular Caterpillar are always good machines to consider, especially the D89T, and the D2 models.

Keep Safe Your Old Car By Car Insurance

People who own antique cars are generally passionate about them; nevertheless, not one owner would ever consider failing to insure their car. Although you might think it hard to obtain, it is surprising how many companies can actually supply antique car insurance. Of course, with so many classic car insurers available, an owner should not have a problem insuring their prized possession; they are also more likely to get the policy at a competitive price.

Mainstream auto insurers are also now able to provide this type of insurance for antique cars; often called collectors auto insurance, these plans meet the exact requirements of the vehicle to be protected. Perhaps more so than a modern car, these policies need to be more precise and an insurance representative will require as much information about the car before he can supply a tailor made quote. Your level of cover will depend on how much you can afford but it is possible to lower this by arranging for your deductible to be raised above the minimum set by the insurer.

It is important to know that the company you are insuring your antique car with is reliable; companies like this are usually well established with a good reputation. These large companies are also able to insure your modern car at the same time and may even have a discount scheme for multiple policies. The security of having an established company provide antique car insurance for an old car is well worth the premium they will charge.

Whilst cost is an issue you may find the specialist auto insurers that exist may be less expensive; the downside is you may have to use a standard auto insurer for any other car. With the number of classic cars still around you will not be surprised to learn that even the insurers have, in some areas, specialized even further to provide cover for only one type of car. To be on the safe side it is best to check out any insurance companies, especially the smaller ones so you can be happy in the knowledge that your premium money and antique car are not at risk.

No-one wants to find that after paying the insurance premiums for months the company will not or is unable to pay out on an insurance claim. It can be a lengthy process finding a reliable antique car insurance provider; nevertheless, it is far better to spend a little time doing this than not having the car insured at all. Most classic race car are worth many thousands of dollars and that is a big loss if the car is ever stolen or destroyed so having auto cover may be the most valuable protection you ever purchase.

Difference Between Classic car And Vintage Car

It is not always easy to determine if a vehicle is considered to be a vintage car or a classic car one. The definitions seem to be changing all the time. A vintage car is usually considered to be any that was built from 1919 to 1930. However, the classic car seems to have crossed into the vintage, at least according to some experts. This can make defining the two tricky. Sometimes knowing the two are different is simply not enough information. If you have an older car and you need facts, you will want to do your homework.

The reason most people need to define their car as classic or vintage is for insurance purposes. You should always have insurance coverage on your vehicle. If anything were to happen to it you would otherwise have to pay for it out of your own pocket. And that's a chance that should never be taken with any old cars. Many insurance companies have a rule that the car must be at least 25 years old or older to be considered a classic. If the car is older than the 1930s it will likely be considered vintage. Of course some agencies even have a historical status for vehicles of certain ages so be sure to inquire fully.

Currently it seems that there is no concrete definition of a classic car. To some it is an old hotrod from the 1950s and for others it is the muscle cars of the 1970s. This term gets a little sticky because the definition seems to change with every person asked.

According to the Classic Car Club of America a classic automobile is any one that has been built between the years of 1925 and 1948. This is an indication of how drastically different the opinions are from resource to resource. That definition does apply to cars that were either domestic or foreign built. If you check out the club's website and find a car missing from their classic list that you feel should be there, you can actually petition the site to add it to their list. It doesn't mean that they will but it's certainly worth a try.

You will likely find that different organizations or car clubs will have their own definitions of Exotic sports car and classic cars. Many different factors affect these choices too such as the popularity of the car then and now as well as the make, model and historical value. For instance, models of vehicles that appeared on TV or in movies tend to have a higher ranking classic status than those that did not.

The rarity of the vehicle also may play a role in if it is classic or vintage. A car that is exceptionally rare will likely have a higher numerical value attached to it. This can affect what category it falls into. Do not stop searching for definitions at just one source. Compare and contrast them, form your own definition if need be based on what you find. A professional opinion is recommended for extremely valuable or rare vehicles.

Questions On Classic Dodge Trucks And Parts

Classic Dodge trucks have a great history and many people appreciate them for their looks, their quality and their uniqueness. But these pickups are not as numerous as the old trucks made by Ford or GM and if you find one of them for sale it is certainly going to be more expensive.

Since these Dodge trucks are so rare it is also more difficult to find parts for sale and that, in turn makes many owners of antique Dodge trucks give up when the truck needs a good restoration.

Sometimes its frustrating to think that if you own a classic truck made by Ford Trucks or General Motors you just have to go to the phone and order your parts or go to one of hundreds of Websites and buy whatever you want. You just have to know how to click your mouse and write your credit card number. With the trucks made by Chrysler the story is completely different.

But you shouldn't give up. After all, you can get much more pleasure out of something that is hard to get. Well, parts for classic Dodge trucks are hard to get, not impossible to get.

The main thing is to be patient and willing to do some serious research because things are improving. Ten or fifteen years ago we didn't have the Internet and things were much harder.

Now you can go to Google, Yahoo or MSN or any other of hundreds of search engines to look for your parts. And be specific when you do a search query because if you don't, you are going to have to go through hundreds or even thousands of Websites about the new Dodge Rams. Search by the year and model of your truck and whenever you look for a particular item for your truck make sure you use the words old, classic, antique or vintage. Again, if you don't, you'll end up with a long list of Websites about modern Dodge trucks.

It is possible that you will find a few Websites published by owners of other old trucks made by Chrysler and also Websites of Mopar clubs and associations. Don't be discouraged if you don't find what you need there and try to get in touch with these people because they may become great sources of information about the availability of parts for your truck.

The auction site of eBay may be another good source of parts for classic Dodge trucks. Go to eBay Motors and use the search box at the top left corner of the page, under the eBay logo. You may have to sift through a lot of items that have nothing to do with what you're looking for but that is the nature of the Internet. Be patient and keep looking. And if you don't find what you need today, go back tomorrow and the day after and next week and next month.

Another thing you can do with eBay is use it for contacts. If you find somebody selling a part that you don't need, maybe you could get in touch with that seller and ask about your part. Many sellers have contacts and they might be willing to help you out. So, go ahead and ask.

The best thing about eBay is that it covers the whole country and it is open 24/7/365. Heck, they have Websites in many countries and your classic truck part might be waiting for you in France or Brazil even! Who knows?

Don't rely only on the Internet though. A lot of parts for sale can be found in other places, like the hundreds of classic car and truck events that are going on all over the place. Swap meets are great for parts. At these events you may find a few vendors who can get the parts you want and, if not you may find other owners of classic Dodge trucks with whom you can talk and exchange ideas and information.

If you are willing to work for your part there are many other resources you can use to look for it. There's a service on the Internet called Craig's List, which publishes classified ads and reaches the whole country. Your local newspaper also may have an ad for the classic truck part that you need.

Finally there's Hemmings Motor News, one of the most important magazines for us lovers of classic cars and trucks. They publish thousands of classified ads every month and you should be researching these ads.

Even if you have no hope of finding your part you don't have to give up. Maybe you can adapt something from another type of truck. Let's supposed you are stuck with a broken front axle and can't find a replacement. Maybe you can get rid of your old front end and install an independent front suspension on your truck. It's a great way to make an old truck ride better and you might even be able to sell the good pieces of your old front end to other desperate old truck owners.

If worse comes to worst you can always try the magic of fabrication. Believe it or not there are many people around you with great tools and lots of talent who may be able to fabricate your part. Go to a machine shop near you and ask. You may be rewarded with a better looking and better performing classic Dodge truck.

Dodge Truck's New Offer For Safety

The pickup truck is one great contribution to the automotive industry. Their functionality has been utilized both for on and off-road purposes. It's no surprise then why Dodge continues to produce cars of this type. The American market continues to patronize them after all.

Extensive cargo capacity is what sets a truck apart from other vehicles. Hauling various sizes and amounts of cargo becomes easier with trucks. When enormous cargo are carried on the back of a pickup truck, visibility of what's behind may be a bit difficult. That is why there are Dodge truck mirrors to tell drivers what is happening behind and beside them. Dodge truck mirrors are very helpful when turning, changing lanes and backing up. Depending on the angle of the mirror's curve, they may reflect anything that is within its scope. Dodge trucks mirrors are essential aspects of a vehicle when it comes to maintaining motorist safety. They provide drivers with the exact traffic situation and this gives them a chance to adjust car movement appropriately while on the road.

There are various kinds of mirrors that are installed in a car. There are the towing mirrors, automatic dimming rearview mirrors, side mirrors, wide-angle mirrors, power mirrors and lots more. All of them provide different kinds of services for different purposes. This simple car part has also seen some development over the years. In fact, some mirrors now feature automatic dimming features that set the rear view mirror to night mode when it senses bright lights reflected on it. There are also mirrors that can actually provide temperature readout and a compass in digitized form being flashed on the mirror. Some side mirrors also act as signal lights; they show arrows visible enough for all the cars behind which way a driver intends to turn.

Hybrid Cars Comes As Cool Cars

The cool car Campaign: Find a James Bond type. Put him in a cool cary Grant suit and sunglasses and place him behind the wheel of a hybrid. Place a Brazilian model in the passenger seat.People make assumptions about those of us who drive hybrids. When I casually mentioned that everyone in Seattle seems to drive a Prius, an acquaintance sniffed: "Of course." We aren't all unshaven-armpit, Birkenstock-wearing, organic-food- eating environmental activists.

The War Connection Campaign: Show a U.S. Army tank rumbling down the streets of Iraq. Show a Hummer rumbling down the streets of Spokane. A voiceover says: "Separated at birth." As Crooks reported last week, the oil we Americans depend on is mostly found in "volatile areas of the world." We are in Iraq because of oil. We stay hand-holding friendly with the Saudis because of oil. When those areas rich in oil go nuclear, we're doomed in more than just the energy department.

Weaning ourselves from foreign oil, one vehicle at a time, drives us all into a better future. The Hybrid-for-Dummies Campaign: Show animated cartoon characters – Disney's Goofy and Homer from the Simpsons – climbing into a hybrid vehicle and looking befuddled. But after a few easy driving lessons, they roar off in the hybrid.

One of my fears about the Prius was its technology. The key doesn't look like a key. You push a button to start it. The gear shift looks like controlson a Nintendo game. It was intimidating at first, but after a few lessons, I had it wired.

Driving a hybrid feels different, especially at first. It falls eerily silent at stoplights, for instance, because it's on battery power. But you don't have to manually switch between battery power and gasoline, as is commonly thought, and you don't have to plug it in, either. My Prius has been in the shop for a few days, because a nice man (with insurance) accidentally changed lanes into me. My rental cool car is a PT Cruiser, a cool car I always thought was cute and looked fun to drive. We haven't bonded.

The cool car is cute, but it feels old-fashioned and not because the inside is designed to look that way. When I drive it, I conjure images from documentaries that show black-and-white footage of the first computers. They were as tall as filing cabinets. For me now, the difference between an all-gasoline engine and a hybrid is the difference between those filing-cabinet computers and a laptop. There's no going back.
